Flex Toning

can you just flex muscles instead of lifting weights?
sometimes when i'm sitting or driving, i flex my muscles to "tone" them. doe this work them out in any way?
like instead of lifting weights, can i just flex my arm muscles? or my butt muscles, calves, abs, etc? i don't want to be ripped, i'm a girl. i just don't want to be flabby haha does this idea work?
i'm not fat at all, i was just looking to be a bit more toned
Flexing by itself provides a very minimal workout. It's a form of what's called "isometric" exercise, or exercise that doesn't involve movement of the muscles and joints. But since there's essentially no resistance, it's not really doing much for you.
If you want muscle tone without bulk, you should still lift weights, but use less weight and more repetitions.
